Trekking Attractions of Coonoor

Sitting down majestically at a high altitude of 1,858 meters in the Blue Mountains of Tamil Nadu State of India, Coonoor is a Hill Station that throws you up with tremendous opportunities for trekking. It has a plethora of Trekking Attractions like the Lamb’s Rock, Lady Canning’s Seat, Dolphin’s Nose, Laws’ Falls, the Droog Fort, etc.
Trekking
It could be undertaken from Lamb’s Rock to Lady Canning’s Seat, Dolphin’s Nose, Law’s Falls and finally to The Droog Fort.
Lamb’s Rock
It is on way to Dolphin's Nose situated in Burliar village about 8 kilometre from Coonoor. Set upon a high hill you would have to climb up the Rock to have the wonderful vistas of the plains.
Lady Canning’ s Seat
Trek for about 8 km from Coonoor, along the road to Lamb’s Rock to reach this destination. It is named after the wife of then Viceroy of India. It offers you spectacular views of Tea Estates. Lamb’s Rock, Droog Fort, etc.
Dolphin’s Nose
Continue trekking from there to the Towering Rock of Dolphin’s Nose situated near Tiger Hills about 12 km from the town which is shaped like the snout of a rising dolphin and hence it is called Dolphin’s Nose.. It gives you opportunities to enjoy the beauties of St. Catherine Waterfalls.
Law’s Falls
It is named after Col. Law, who constructed the new Coonoor Mountain Pass. It has a pretty cascade on the Coonoor River near its Junction in the Mettupalayam Mountain Pass Road. Now trek back towards Coonoor, undertake a de-tour for about 5 km to reach the Falls..

The Droog Fort

Now head for this Towering Fort of 6000 ft located 13 km from the town built by Tipu Sultan which he had constructed to use it as a Military Outpost. Though it is in ruins now it offers views of surroundings.
While heading back to Coonoor you can board a bus from here but to enjoy this luxury you would have to trek for about 3 km.

November to February.

It has plenty of accommodation to suit all the budgets from family run guest houses to government rest houses, etc.

How To Reach

By Air

The Nearest Airport Coimbatore, 90 km

By Train

The Nearest Broad Gauge Junction Coimbatore, 70 km.
The Toy Train from Mettupalayam to Ooty connects Coonoor.
Ooty, another fabulous tourist centre is only 17 km away.

By Road

Coonoor is well connected by road and buses are also available from Coimbatore.
