Set at an altitude of about 6000 ft in Idukki District, Kerala State, India, Munnar has everything to offer, attract as also to satisfy its tourists. Hence once you have fallen into the lap of its charm you would never wish to leave it. Major Tourist Places around Munnar are Chinnakanal or Powerhouse Waterfalls, Top Station, Tata Tea Museum, etc.

Chinnakanal or Powerhouse Waterfalls

This Waterfall is located about 16 km from Munnar on the Munnar-Madurai National Highway. It is on the way to Thekkady, another nearby Famous Tourist Attraction and as such it is an ideal stop-over for you to visit it. Truly everybody comes to visit Thekkady or Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary only and on its way everyone visits this Waterfalls as a Bonus Point.
The water that it pours from the Waterfall emanates from Devikulam only, another wonderful Hill Station located 8 km away from Munnar. The Water of the Waterfall has curative qualities.
It is a wonderful spectacle to watch the pure, crystal, clear, white water flowing from a steep rock located at an incredible height of about 6000 feet from sea level making thunderous applause to find its way to fern-fringed pools. You will understand the depth of its purity and the width of its clarity only when it sprays its ‘holy water’ on your face, dress, etc.

Top Station

Situated at an altitude of 2200 meters, Top Station is the Highest Point in the picturesque, exquisite Munnar-Kodaikanal Landscape and hence it is called the Top Station. It is also home to the Highest Point of Tea Plantation in India and it is located on the border of Kerala – Tamil Nadu States.
If you stand at the topmost point of the Top Station you would feel that you tower over everybody as you can see not only the nearby views of southern and northern sides but also far away sights of the East, that is the entire State of Tamil Nadu and also everything of the West Side including the Arabian Sea.

It would be a windfall if you get the fortune to witness the endemic Strobilanthes or ‘Neelkurinji’ whereby it colours the entire region with the blue colour of its flowers for about a month as it happens only once in 12 years. Nevertheless during that period it ensures that the entire landscape has been brought under its ‘blue reign’.

Tata Tea Museum

This is located at the Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea in Munnar. It houses curios, photographs, etc, connected with the growth and development of tea plantations, tea processing, etc, in Munnar.
