Prominent Churches, Temples, Forts, etc, of Goa

Located in the West Coast of India, South of Mumbai, Goa is a Hot Spot Tourist Destination of India.


Its beaches have played very prominent roles in catapulting it to such a high pedestal. But it
is not only an area filled up with beaches but it also has a large number of churches, temples, forts, etc, that also have contributed much in its make-over endeavours. Listed below is a Small List of Churches, Temples, Museums, etc, of Goa, which have participated in that movement of metamorphosis.


Churches


Some of the churches that I feel you should not miss out to visit in Goa are - Se or St. Catherine’s Cathedral at Panjim, Church of St. Francis Assisi, just south-west of it, Chapel of St. Catherine, Panjim, Basilica of Bom Jesus, 9 kms from Panaji, Chapel of St. Xavier in Panjim, etc.



Temples


The Temples of Goa that worth seeing I feel are Mahalaxmi Temple at Panaji, Mangesh Temple at Priol, Shant Durga Temple at Kavele, Ganapati Temple at Khandole, Mahalaxmi Temple at Bandewade, Sri Nagesh Maharudra Temple at Bandora, etc.



Forts


The forts that you could visit in Goa I feel are Reis Majos Fort at Bardez Taluka, North Goa District, Fort Aguada at Sinquerim Plateau in Bardez Taluka, Chapora fort located at southern cape of Chapora River, etc.



Heritage Sites


Major World Heritage Sites of Goa are mainly Churches built by Portuguese or those built during their reign. Some of them are Se Cathedral, Church and Convent of St. Francis Assissi, Chapel of St. Catherine, Basilica of Bom Jesus, etc.


Wildlife Sanctuaries


Worthwhile Willdlife Sanctuaries to visit in Goa are Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, about 38 kms from Margao, Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary located at Mollen in Sanguem Taluka of South Goa District, about 53 kms away from Panaji, Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary located at Canacona Taluka, South Goa District, Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary located at Island of Chorao near Mandovi River, etc.



Museums



Museums that I feel you should visi in Goa are Archaeological Museum located about 9 kms away from Panaji, Museum of Goa in Old Goa, Institute of Menezes Braganza, Panaji, The Naval Aviation
Museum, located at Bogmalo Road, Dabolim, 6 kms from Vasco de Gama, etc.
