With its narrow streets, green coconut palms, old-world tile roof houses, beautiful temples, wonderful churches, etc, it has a large number of Religious and Other Attractions. However its Prominent Religious Attractions are Mangala Devi Temple, Kadri Manjunatha Temple, St. Aloysius College Chapel, etc.
Mangaladevi Temple
The name ‘Mangalapura’ or’ Mangalapuram’ is originated from the Temple of Mangaladevi and the name ‘Mangalore’ is the Anglicized Version of ‘Mangalapuram’. It is a very old temple dedicated to the Goddess of Mangaladevi situated at a place called ‘Bolar’, 4 km from the city and it is believed to have been constructed in the 9th century. People believe that if they worship the Goddess she blesses them up with prosperity. The Chief Festival of the Temple is ‘Dussera’ or ’Navarathri’, a Hindu Festival of Nine Days which people of the area celebrate with splendor and grandeur.
Kadri Manjunatha Temple
Built up in 11th century it is situated at the foot of the Kadri Hill, 3 km north of the city. Its idol of Lord Manjunathaswamy is considered to be the Oldest Idol of South India,. On top of the Hill you could find a Monastery or ‘Mutt’ called 'Jogimutt’ where Pandava Stone Caves await you to welcome you.
St. Aloysius College Chappel
Located about one km from the city on top of the Light House Hill it is an Architectural Wonder that could stand in comparison with the Beautiful Sistine Chappel of Rome. Its walls and ceilings have been decorated with Biblical Frescoes which are fabulous. It was built by Italian Jesuit Father Antonio Moscheni in 1884.
Jesuit Fathers have played pivotal roles in the Educational, Health Care, etc, spheres of Mangalore. They only set up St. Aloysius College in 1880 followed by the College Chapel.

It has an Airport of its own at Bajpe, 18 Km
By Rail
Mangalore has a Railway Station of its own which connects it to Major Towns of India.
By Road
It has a good network of roads and as such you can reach here without any difficulty from any part of India.
Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses ply from Mysore, Bangalore, Goa and Mumbai. Private buses too operate.
It is also close to ‘God’s Own Country of Kerala’ as its Kasargode Town is only 60 km away.
