According to legend Bangalore has got its name from the Kannada words‘Benda Kalu Ooru’ or ‘Place of Baked Beans’. As per the same King Veeraballa of Vijayanagara while travelling through the forests of Bangalore forgot his way and consequently he got exhausted and also he felt hungry. Fortunately he found a poor, old woman in a hut who felt pity upon him and so she served him with baked beans or ‘Benda Kalu’ in Kannada language. In gratitude he christened the place ‘Benda Kalu Ooru’ or ‘Place of Baked Beans’ which later on became Bangalore.
Location
It is located in the State of Karnataka, India It has got a Large Number of Attractions. However the Prominent among them are State Legislative Assembly Tower or Vidhan Soudha, Lalbagh or Red Garden, Cubbon Park, Nehru Planetarium, etc.
‘Vidhan Soudha’
It has been constructed incorporating the Best Architectural Features of Kannadas, Cholas, Dravidians, Rajasthanis, etc. A Thirty Meter Dome towers over it surrounded by a Four-Headed Ashoka Lions, the National Emblem of India. Illuminated on Sunday evenings it looks marvelous.
Lalbagh
It is one of the Best Botanical Gardens of South Asia. .
Laid out by Hyder Ali, the Ruler of Mysore in 1760 as a Private Garden of 40 acres and designed on model of Garden at Sira in Tumkur, 120 km from Bangalore, it was further developed by Ali’s son Tipu Sulan, British, etc. Now it has an area of 240 acres and has over 1000 Species of Flora which include rare collection of Tropical Plants, Trees, Herbs, etc. Glass House modelled on Crystal Palace of London is its Principal Attraction. It is aesthetically designed with Lawns, Flowerbeds, Lotus Pools, Fountains, etc. and it has been accorded the Coveted Status of Government Botanical Garden in 1856 and since then it has been a Centre For Scientific Study of Plants, Conservation of Plants, etc.
Cubbon Park
Located 5 km from Railway Station, in 1927 it was officially renamed Sri Chamarajendra Park to commemorate Silver Jubilee Rule of Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar in Mysore State. Many official and public buildings are located within the Park. The High Court, Indira Priyadarshini Children’s Library, City Central Library, Government Museum, Art Gallery, Aquarium, etc, are located in Park. It is spread over an area of 300 acres with lush grass area with flowers, flowerbeds, illuminated fountains, etc.
Nehru Planetarium
Founded in 1989 it hosts daily various programmes to educate people on astronomy. It also has a Sky Theatre with a Sitting Capacity for 225 Persons with a Dome of Fifteen Meters Diameter which enables you to view mysteries of outer space.

It could be reached easily by road from any part of India.
