Main Attractions of Delhi









Delhi  is a Wonderful Mega-City and  is also a Mega-Book that elucidates the History of India as it has been the Capital of the Mughal Empire, the British India, the Independent  India, etc.  It has the distinction to have had undergone through the agonies of having got built, re-built, etc, not once, nor twice but as many as seven times.
Delhi is also  One of the  Most  Exciting Sightseeing Destinations of the World.  Some of its Main Tourist Attractions  are India Gate,  Qutub  Minar, etc. 
India Gate
Built in 1921 and located at Rajpath in Rajiv Chowk, One Km from Connaught Place, the Prominent City Centre, it is a 42 Meter Tall  Memorial  Stone Arch  constructed in red stone and granite,  in memory of 90,000 Indian Soldiers who died in World War I. It was previously called  All India War Memorial.
It also houses an Eternal Flame in memory of the Indian Soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the War with Pakistan in 1971.
This is One of the Most Sought After Tourist Destinations of Delhi and you can spend the whole day here watching monkey performance, riding camels, etc.  It is surrounded  by a large expanse of lush green lawn and you can move about its brightly lit area in summer evenings.
Qutub  Minar
It is a fluted Red Stone Tower  located in Mehrauli of South Delhi and with 238 ft high it is  the Tallest Brick Tower in the World, the Highest  Individual Tower in the World and the Tallest Monument of India.   There are other monuments surrounding it and are collectively addressed  Qutub Complex.  It takes 378 Steps to make  to top of Tower.  It gives you a  bird’s eye view of the city and other monuments of Delhi like Tuqhlaqabad,  Humayun’s Tomb,   Old Fort, Firoz Shah Kotla,  Jama Masjid, etc.
Tower has 5 distinct storey each marked by a projecting balcony and  each tapers from 47 feet  at base to 9 feet  at top.  First three  storey are made up  of red sandstone and fourth and fifth storey  are of marbles and sandstones. 
Construction of the  Tower has been started by  Qutbuddin Aibak, the first Muslim Ruler of India  in 1199 but unfortunately he  could complete the construction of  only the Basement.  His successor  Iltumish built three  more storey and in 1368 Firoz ShahTughlak constructed the fifth and the last storey.

Some Other Important Attractions of Delhi are  Parliament House, Rashtrapati Bhavan or Official Residence of President of India,  Lotus Temple,  Red Fort,  Old Fort, Chandni Chowk,  National Museum, Humayun’s Tomb, Raj Ghat, The Rail Museum,  etc.

By Rail
Delhi has Five Major Railway Stations, namely,  New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, Hazarat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Sarai Rohila Railway Station and Anand Vihar Railway Terminal.
New Delhi  Ralway Station is the Main Railway Terminus of Delhi and it is in the heart of city, 2 km and all the other Main Railway Stations are nearby and you can travel to any part of India from these stations.
