Initially Havana has been established in 1514 on the southern coast of Cuba. However by 1519 it has been moved out to the northern coast of the Island Country. In 1607 it has been made the capital of Cuba by Spain and since then it has been growing and by early 18th century it has been the third largest city of the Spanish Empire after Mexico City and Lima. It is its main port and capital. If you look for the best of the past with modern warmth you can’t find a better city than Havana anywhere in the world. It is also gifted with a number of tourist attractions. Prominent amongst them are Museum of the City, Cigar Factories, etc.
Museum of the City
Built in 1791 it was the Residential Palace of Colonial Governors and it is now one of the Show-piece Museums of the City. Its wonderful collection of Exhibits would tell you the Exciting Story of the City right from its inception to the present day. It has also wide collections of archaeology, folklore, weaponry, porcelain paintings, etc.
Cigar Factories
Cigar is manufactured in Havana by the traditional method of hand rolling and its Three Main Cigar Factories are Partagas, La Corona and Romeo y Julieta which allow you to see their manufacturing processes. Founded in 1827 Partaga is the Oldest Cigar Factory of Havana. All the said Factories have their own Retail Outlets and they allow you to buy their cigars from them though they are costly. To make capital out of their high prices street hawkers offer you look-alike cigarettes at lesser rates. They are fake products made from rolled banana leaves.
Plaza de la Revolucion
This is a Museum dedicated to Jose Marti, who died in the Second War of Independence in 1895. With 138 ft in height it is the tallest structure of the city and you can avail of the elevator facility to reach its top. Behind it you can find the Che Guevara Image with the slogan ‘Forever onwards Towards Victory’.
Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes
It has two buildings to promote National and International Arts. The National Museum of The Coleccion de Arte Cubano exhibits works of prominent Cuban Artists from 16th to 20th centuries. The International Museum of The Coleccion de Arte Universal show-cases artworks of Greece, Latin American Countries, U.S.A., France, Holland, Italy, etc.
