The Lake of Goddess, Devikulam






‘Devi’ and ‘Kulam’ are Malayalam Language Words, which mean Goddess and Lake respectively. There is a Mythological Story behind its name and as per the same the Goddess of Sita of Ramayana had taken bath in the Waters of Lake of this Area. To link directly to this Eventful Event the Lake is called the Lake of Goddess or ‘Devikulam’ in Malayalam, the Language of Kerala. And subsequently the whole area around the Lake is called ‘Devikulam’.



Nature’s pet



Mother Nature has been magnanimous to her sparkling creation. It is cool when summer simmers and its climate is pleasant when winter makes you shiver. Location



It is located at an altitude of 1800 meters, 16 km southwest of. Munnar, another Ideal Hill Station.
A small creamy, dreamy, Hill Station of Idukki District it can be reached by a sharp ascent along mountainous path, 149 km from Kochi, and 132 km from Kottayam, State of Kerala, India.

Its Star Attractions are Lake, Spice Plantations, Trout Fishing, Trekking, etc.



Lake



Devikulam Lake known as Sita Devi Lake is a beautiful picnic spot. Its crystal clear waters, flowering shrubs, twittering songbirds, etc, make it an ideal picnic spot. It is believed that its mineral water fountains, natural springs, etc, have curative and medicinal qualities.



Spice Plantations



Neatly trimmed row of tea shrubs, lightly tied pepper plants, pampered clove plants and cared cardamom plants stir the air with sprays of perfumes that would take away all your chronic diseases to give you a new lease of life in its heaven.



Trout fishing

It is a fabulous pastime to spend your leisure time with. Only very few areas afford you this pleasure of grandeur like Nilgiris, Devikulam, etc.

It is a Paradise of Trekkers. Its lush green landscape, mountain trails, verdant woods, etc, are irresistible to adventurers. Its clean, crisp mountain air, red-blue gum trees, abundant flora, fauna, etc, attract them to go into this activity.

Buses ply from Madurai, Coimbatore, Munnar, etc, to Devikulam regularly.
