The Majestic Beaches of Kovalam

The Beaches of Kovalam are located approximately 15 km south of Trivandrum, Capital City of Kerala State, India. The word ‘Kovalam’ means grove of coconut trees and as if to justify the said word Kovalam Beaches offer an endless row of coconut trees spreading out its splendor of greenery and scenery. 

The Majesty of Kovalam Beaches 

The Unique Features of Kovalam Beaches are majestic and musical seas, smiling and silvery white sands, murmuring and dancing palm trees, glittering sun shine, rejuvenating Massage Parlours, etc, which only make Kovalam Beaches Majestic. 

Three Beaches

Kovalam has mainly three successive but small crescent beaches namely Lighthouse Beach, Eve’s or Hawah Beach and Samudra Beach.

Lighthouse Beach

This is the southernmost beach and it is called Lighthouse Beach as it houses the Lighthouse to guide ships, etc. It is a Worthwhile House to visit for if you climb up its 142 spiral steps and 12 ladder rungs to reach its Observation Platform you can see Beemapalli mosque in one direction and Poovar on the other. The Lighthouse offers spectacular view of nearby Vizhinjam Mosque.

The Beach is clustered with Low Cost Lodging Houses, Restaurants, etc, ideal for long stay. 
You can also venture out into the sea on surf boards, wooden catamarans, etc. Beach chairs and parasols are also available on hire.


The Middle, Hawah- or Eve’s Beach 

With a high rock promontory and a tranquil bay of blue waters, it creates a unique aquarelle on moonlight nights. Its leisure options are sun bathing, swimming, herbal body toning massages, special cultural programs, catamaran cruises, etc. It situates in opposite direction of Lighthouse Beach. Westerners in their swim suits are common sights here. They choose this beach as crowd is less and waves are not very rough.


Samudra Beach

It is into north and is not active during day times, but it gets active at nights and restaurant tables are laid out on the shore. There is a small temple situated here which is surrounded by resorts with ayurvedic spas, massage parlours, etc. Local fishermen crowd this beach during day times.

Activities.

Local fishermen provide sun rise and sunset cruises in fishing boats. Also you can have Catamaran cruises on country rafts.

Accommodation

It is available from budget to top class hotels and also home-stay facilities.

Shopping

You can find shops selling carved ivory items, wooden baskets, caskets, Kathakali masks, handicrafts items, books, antiques, Tibetan, Kashmiri and Rajasthani clothes, etc.

It has good network of roads. Kerala State Transport Buses and inter-state buses have regular services to Kovalam.
