Kodai Lake, The Landmark of Kodaikanal

The word ‘Kodaikanal’ means ‘Gift of Forest’.  With its ever-green fauna, scenic greenery, exotic hills, exquisite tea plantations, lazy, cozy lake, serene, green ambience, sweet neat plums, the blue Strobilanthes or Neelkurinji, etc, it is truly a Gift of Forest or she is the Daughter of Forest that fires the dreams of every tourist to throw up his or her hat into the ring of its charm to sit in its lap for at least a second.
British Creation
It has been built by Sir Vere Henry Levinge, the  Collector of Madurai during the British Rule in 1863.  By artificially creating it he transformed a marshy stretch of  land  into a spectacular lake by strengthening its banks and bringing beautiful boats from Tuticorin.
Star-shaped
Star-shaped, centrally located and surrounded by lush green hills of Palani Hills Range, it spreads out its Green Carpet of Greenery and Scenery to welcome you. An Earthen Dam has been constructed to create Lake in a marshy area.  Outflow from the Lake forms a Waterfall called Silver Cascade.

The Pathway running into 5 km along the periphery of Lake is a good  jaunt to laze around.
